Here's another stellar bottle from one of Italy's greatest wine subzones: the high-elevation Valle Isarco. Made in stainless steel only, the Cantina Valle Isarco 2021 Alto Adige Valle Isarco Kerner Aristos is expressed in terms of finesse and nuance. The wine boasts a filigree of tart pear, green apple, crushed quartz stone and smoky ash. Fruit comes from way high up the mountain, at 800 to 970 meters above sea level. The 2021 Kerner Aristos emerges from the glass with green melon and kiwi nuances complemented by confectionary spice. It's soft-textured and soothing on the palate, mixing a pleasant inner sweetness with salty minerals and ripe orchard fruits. This becomes perfumed through the juicy finale, leaving a gentle tug of lime and green apple.

Kerner is one of the most interesting grapes of Alto Adige. A cross between Riesling and Schiava (a RED grape!) the wine is aromatic and super textural. The "Aristos" is a shining example of this super fun grape. Aromas of citrus oil, lemongrass, white flowers and river rock dance out of the glass. The palate is bright and vibrant with zingy acidity intensifying the citrus flavors found in the wine. The wine finishes with amazing texture on the palate. (Best Buy)

Medium-bodied white with green apple, pineapple, grapefruit, fennel and lemon blossom on the nose. Vibrant and fruity with bright citrus and tropical-fruit notes. Excellent concentration on the lengthy finish. Drink now.
Winery
Strict controls, from pruning to ripeness, and the selection of exceptionally good-quality grapes are the criteria allowing the production of this fantastic Kerner wine, with its intense fruitiness and robust and expressive body.

Region: Trentino/Alto Adige

There are few wine regions in Italy which generate quite as much intrigue and excitement amongst wine lovers as that of Trentino-Alto Adige. Situated in the northernmost borders of the country, Trentino-Alto Adige is a wine region quite unlike any other in Italy. With a range of influences from Germany, Lombardy and Venezia, the wines of Trentino-Alto Adige tend to be quite different from those found elsewhere in Italy, and are often considered to be the country's finest produce. The region is an alpine one, and the flavors of the Alps are often detected in Trentino-Alto Adige's finest white wines – all fresh, crystal waters and resiny aromas – whilst the red wines are generally deep and spicy, and perfect for a range of cuisines.

Country: Italy

It isn't difficult to understand why Italy is famed not just for the quality of its wines, but also for the vast variety and range of characteristics found in the wines there. The terrain of the country varies wildly, from the lush rolling green hills and valley of Tuscany, to the sun drenched rocky coasts of Sicily, the mountainous and alpine regions of the north, and the marshy lowlands of the east. Italy really does have a little bit of everything. Combine this huge range of landscapes with an almost perfect climate for grape cultivation, and you have a country seemingly designed for viticultural excellence. The results speak for themselves, and it is clear to see that wine has become an inseparable part of Italian culture as a result of its abundance and brilliance. Each village, city and region has a local wine perfectly matched with the cuisine of the area, and not an evening passes without the vast majority of Italian families raising a glass of locally sourced wine with pride and pleasure.
