The 2019 Nebbiolo Centennial Mountain Vineyard is a wild, powerful wine endowed with tons of structure and personality. Wild cherry, blood orange, spice, sage and mint give the Nebbiolo tons of aromatic presence. There's plenty of depth behind that. This is a pretty potent, serious California Nebbiolo endowed with beguiling complexity and of class. It offers tons of Nebbiolo character with an extra kick of California sunshine. It spent 31 days on the skins and was aged in 25hL casks, a pretty traditional regime of winemaking and élevage. This is a big step up. Give the 2019 a year or two to help soften the tannic bite. ... A bright ruby/garnet color, the 2019 Nebbiolo Centennial Mountain Vineyard is packed with aromas of candied raspberry, spiced orange peel, crushed roses, and fresh leather. Medium-bodied and finessed, fine tannins emerge as the wine floats across the palate with ease, revealing its more serious structure on the mid-palate and finish, with a savory and attractive lift of tea leaf lasting long on the finish. This is an impressive Nebbiolo with a lot of personality and true varietal character coming from California. Drink 2024-2032.

Although we began producing Nebbiolo with the 2016 vintage, we opted to wait for a truly exceptional example. Finally, with the 2019 vintage, we have it! Nebbiolo offers a mesmerizing blend of delicacy and structure. The combination of rose petals, red fruit, spicy earth, and savory dryness is utterly captivating. We hope you enjoy this first 2019 Centennial Mountain Nebbiolo as much as we do!

The name 'Nebbiolo' means 'fog' in Italian, and there is some debate as to the origin of this unusual name. However, many people claim it has something to do with the milky white dust which covers these dark, round grapes as they begin to reach maturity. The 'valley of the moon', as it is affectionately known, benefits enormously from the blazing Californian sunshine it receives throughout the long, hot and dry summers, and exceptionally warm autumns in which the vast array of grape varietals found there ripen. Sonoma Valley is most famous for big, full-bodied and flavorful red wine grapes, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as many excellent white wine grapes. Due to the volcanic soils of the region, fed by thermal springs packed full of minerals, the soil is wonderfully fertile and capable of supporting a wide variety of grape species.
