Always true to its feminine name, the 2018 Emmaline Ann Pinot Noir is a textbook showing of the most understated and seductive wine in the Cobb roster. The nose is filled with both fresh and dried flowers, sewn together with its classic pomegranate and bing cherry fruit profile. The palate is long and clean with a touch more zing than I have found in past vintages. A refreshing note of tangerine zest carries the finish beautifully. Drinking Window 2021 - 2038. ... The 2018 Pinot Noir Emmaline Ann Vineyard comes from vines planted in 1998 and is usually made with a higher proportion of whole cluster than other wines in the Cobb portfolio, around 40% to 60% depending on vintage. Pale, vibrant ruby in color, its scents of ripe cranberries and blood orange peel are pure and intense, with tones of earth and Angostura bitters. The palate is grainy and fresh with full, spicy flavors and a long, layered finish. It's a very pure, detailed expression of Emmaline Ann.

The 2018 Pinot Noir Emmaline-Ann Vineyard is bright and effusive, with striking aromatic presence to match its gracious, mid-weight personality. There is a feeling of transparency in the 2018 that is utterly beguiling. Crushed red berry, orange zest, white pepper and crushed rocks are all finely delineated. A healthy dollop of whole clusters (40%) adds a brilliant upper register.

From a vineyard is situated roughly 700 feet elevation on a west-facing, cool site. the 2018 Pinot Noir Emmaline Ann Vineyard is ripe with wild strawberry, cinnamon spice, pine, and wet stone. The palate is fresh with crunchy red fruit, pomegranate, forest floor and tea leaf. The palate is medium-bodied and ripe up front, with fine tannins and fresh acid.
Winery
Graceful and thought-provoking, this wine seems to reflect the surroundings of Emmaline Ann Vineyard, with notes of raspberry and cherry fruit, secondary aromas of redwood forest, sweet sage, wild cherry and mushrooms, as well as a hint of ruby red grapefruit. On the palate, zesty orange and tart pomegranate notes are underscored by a racy acidity that carries the red berry flavors to an elegant finish.

Varietal: Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir grapes have been cultivated in and around the Burgundy region of France for centuries, where they have long been favored by vintners for their wide range of flavors, their thin skins and for producing wines which have light, smooth tannins, and a beautiful garnet red color Whilst they remain one of the flagship varietals of this special region, their wide popularity and recent status as a fashionable 'romantic' varietal has led to them being planted in almost every wine producing country in the world. However, the Pinot Noir demands a huge amount of care and attention from the wineries that wish to grow it, as this varietal is particularly susceptible to various forms of mildew and rot. Despite this, the grape is otherwise a favorite with wineries for the fact that it requires little extra effort once it begins fermentation. Pinot Noir is also widely known for producing some of the world's most famous sparkling wines, being one of two key grapes for the production of Champagne, and several other sparkling varieties.

Region: California

California has long been the New World's most important and prodigious wine producing regions, with a history which stretches back to the 18th century and the Spanish pioneers who settled here. Today, California produces vast quantities of wine, and if it were a country, it would be the fourth largest producer of wine on earth. Despite experiencing many problems in the mid 20th century, including a very serious blight which almost crippled the state's wine industry, the ideal terroir and excellent climate ensured that Californian wines soon became the envy of the New World once again. California produces a vast range of wines, and utilizes a long list of fine grape varietals, with many wineries and their produce more closely resembling those of France and other Old World countries in regards to character, practices and flavors

Country: United States

The first European settlers to consider growing grapevines in the United States must have been delighted when they discovered the now famous wine regions within California, Oregon and elsewhere. Not even in the Old World are there such fertile valleys, made ideal for vine cultivation by the blazing sunshine, long, hot summers and oceanic breezes. As such, it comes as little surprise that today more than eighty-nine percent of United States wines are grown in the valleys and on the mountainsides of California, where arguably some of the finest produce in the world is found. However, American wine does not begin and end with California, and due to the vast size of the country and the incredible range of terrains and climates found within the United States, there is probably no other country on earth which produces such a massive diversity of wines. From ice wines in the northern states, to sparkling wines, aromatized wines, fortified wines, reds, whites, rosés and more, the United States has endless surprises in store for lovers of New World wines.
