Once again, I tasted the 2014 Termanthia, a selection from 120-year-old ungrafted vines that is heady, ripe and powerful, voluptuous and juicy, with lots of concentration, tannins and everything else, powerful and ripe, impressive and showy. It's teeth-staining dark, with abundant tannins, a round, lush texture and gobs and gobs of fruit. It seems to be evolving very slowly, and the tannins still need some powerful food. 8,500 bottles and 250 magnums were filled in June 2016.

Pretty purity and balance to this with crushed black cherry, dark chocolate and some walnut and toasted-oak undertones. It’s full-bodied and flavorful with chewy tannins and an attractive core of fruit at the finish. A year or two will allow this to soften. Try after 2021.

This generous yet refined red shows a flashy, polished texture and supports expressive layers of blackberry, espresso, oak spice, wild herb and loamy earth flavors. This is muscular and well crafted, with elements of anise, red plum and rose petal fine tuning the finish. Drink now through 2030. 800 cases made, 400 cases imported.
Color: Ripe cherry, high layer, without evolution.
Aroma: Intense and captivating, suggestive and complex With multiple aromatic layers. We find in the first instance black fruits such as currants and cassis, violet flower, spices like clove and nutmeg, tobacco leaf and fresh notes of thyme and rosemary, with a great balance and harmony.
Palate: Termanthia shows a full and generous attack. A great expression with a lot of delicacy. Black fruits, violets, notes of scrubland, and sweet spices cover the mouth with harmony. The finish is fresh and long, delicate and balanced.
