The 2019 Gold Vidal Icewine was fermented and aged for about 14 weeks in 90% new French oak. It comes in with 272 grams of residual sugar, 10.5 of total acidity and 10% alcohol. Rich and unctuous, this also has classic aromatics and a certain level of freshness that keeps it from being particularly cloying. This is also completely delicious, with a little of bit of spicy apricots on the mouthwatering finish. The acidity lifts the fruit and allows it to shine through. It's never going to be a nervy wine, but it is not flabby either. If you like stickies, this won't disappoint. It should age very well, acquiring a bit more character along the way. Many will like it the way it is, but it can acquire another dimension in time. ... More details

Winery
The finest and highest Brix Vidal grapes were selected for this vintage which displays ripe peaches and apricots on the nose with overtones of marmalade and candied brown sugar. With intense fruit flavours on the palate, the wine's ample natural acidity is softened with a creamy vanilla note afforded by oak aging.

Country: Canada

Canada is not a country many people readily associate with wine production and vineyard cultivation, although it has been successfully producing a range of quality wines for over two hundred years. Many of the wineries in Canada are used exclusively for the production of ice wine, a special style of wine which involves allowing the grapes to freeze in the early frost, thus intensifying the sugars and natural flavors of the grapes. However, recent years have seen wineries in several parts of the country producing more traditional styles of wines, using a blend of traditional and modern techniques and methods to achieve excellent results. The vast majority of Canadian wineries are located in British Columbia and Ontario, although everywhere from Quebec to the shores of Lake Erie also have well established wineries producing characterful Canadian produce.
