A gentle perfume of cloves, red berries and orange peel lend a potpourri-like feel to this Pinot. It's slightly sappy and autumnal, with a raw mineral edge. The palate is lightweight but with a sturdy spine of sap-like tannins and snappy acidity that feels like you're taking a bite rather than a sip. There is an ease and expressiveness here that's easy to love. (Editors’ Choice) ... More details

A fragrant nose of cranberries, sour cherries, redcurrants, dried flowers and sweet spices. Medium body with crisp acidity and velvety tannins. Round and creamy with spicy character to the finish. Long and vibrant. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

Restrained aromas of panache with a lovely core of fruit and some mineral and floral highlights. Dry on the palate. (Silver) - DWWA 2022

The 2019 Pinot Noir Southern Valleys offers a round and wholesome mouthful of wine. It is savory and deeply fruity with balanced cedar-like oak nuances meeting berries and wild herbs. There's a sense of hands being firmly off in this wine with its pure character and its mouthcoating tannins as if the wine was not pushed in any direction. The naturally firm acidity of the cool Marlborough climate shows through on its taut, firm finish. While not the most concentrated of Pinots I've tasted, this will age gracefully thanks to its structural components.

Generous and plump, with wild berry, black cherry and red licorice flavors that are juicy and spicy, which also show off dried rose petal, matcha and orange zest details, adding an aromatic, elegant lift on the silky frame. Drink now. 3,000 cases made, 100 cases imported.
Winery
The 2019 Nautilus Pinot Noir is dark ruby in colour. The complex nose displays dark cherries, plums, earthy notes and a touch of toasty spice. The palate is concentrated and elegant with a fine dense core of tannins and a long savoury finish.

Varietal: Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is one of the planet's most widely grown and enjoyed grape varietals, and thanks to the popularity of the key wines it is associated with – Burgundy and Champagne – it has successfully spread from its native home in France to much of the wine producing world. Pinot Noir means 'black pine' in French, and this refers to the extremely dark, inky color of the fruit, and the fact that it grows in conical bunches, resembling a large pine cone. It has long been revered for its wide range of refreshing, summery flavors, and the fact that it produces red wines of a beautiful garnet color and light body. More recently, sparkling wines made exclusively with Pinot Noir have been extremely popular, and the orchard notes found in the fizzy 'blanc des noirs' wines mark out just how versatile this grape varietal really is. Despite being notoriously difficult to grow, it isn't hard to see why this grape is now found in vineyards all over the world, as it is synonymous with romance and decadence, quality and fantastic flavor

Region: Marlborough

The Marlborough region of New Zealand's South Island is widely regarded as one of the most ideal regions in the world for the production of high quality, flavorful and characterful white wines. The Sauvignon Blanc varietal grapes which are grown there have a long ripening period as a result of the cool climate and brisk oceanic winds, meaning they eventually express plenty of the terroir's features in the bottle alongside their fresh and various fruit flavors The region also supports many other grape varietals, although the most commonly grown grapevines aside from Sauvignon Blanc are Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Since the 1970s, Marlborough has consistently impressed the wine world with its produce, and has dominated the New Zealand wine industry, with over sixty percent of the country's vines grown in this beautiful region.

Country: New Zealand

New Zealand is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful and ecologically diverse countries in the world, and the wines which are produced there are a fine representation of this diversity and overall quality. With beautifully long and warm summers, a brisk oceanic climate and mile upon mile of gently sloping mountainsides, the vineyards which have sprung up there over the past century have brought about truly fantastic results, with wine now contributing a considerable amount to the economy of the country. In recent years, New Zealand wines have won some of the most prestigious awards available in the wine world, with most of the lauded wineries coming from the Auckland region, where there has been considerable effort to replicate the finest wines of the Bordeaux region of France. The Bordeaux grape varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec) all flourish in the mineral rich soil of the region, and the results have been outstanding, marking New Zealand a strong contender for finest New World wine country.
